OTHER MIDWEST ROBBERIES

Hispanic-owned jewelry store robberies have been occurring around the
midwest. Detectives from Green Bay, Wisconsin recovered the van used in a

Hanover Park, Illinois has posted on their website six very good
photographs of the suspects. Working together all the agencies have
obtained good evidence that we believe will link all of the armed
robberies. However, we still need help identifying the suspects. We
have reason to believe that Columbus, Nebraska and Lexington, Kentucky may
also have been visited by this ring of thieves. Please
click here to view photos of the suspects. If you recognize any

ELDERLY FEMALES TARGET OF BURGLARIES
October 26, 2006
Recently,
police have taken reports on a team of male Hispanics who are entering
homes, while they are occupied by elderly women, and stealing money and
jewelry. The suspects will knock on the victim’s door and inquire
about property for sale in the neighborhood. Other times they ask about
other elderly females living alone who may be interested in cheap handyman
work. Once the suspects gather the names of these new elderly females they
visit the homes, informing the new victim that they were referred by the
last victim. Once inside the homes of these unsuspecting ladies, the
suspect will ask for a glass of water or a piece of paper to write their
name and phone number down. At least once they were able to get the victim
outside, explaining they were surveying her property and needed her help
to find a lot line. Once outside, others enter the house and steal money
and jewelry. Please inform everyone in your neighborhood that this
crime has been recently reported to police and is on-going. Police ask
that you look in on any elderly ladies living alone. Do not hesitate to
call police if you see suspicious male Hispanics on the doorstep of any

Sunday June
19th around 3:45 AM, Milan Police and the Blackhawk Fire Department
responded to a fire at 3422 Shadow Wood Court. The new home under
construction was the first in this quiet secluded area. Due to the stage
of construction this fire is considered suspicious and the State Fire
Marshall is conducting an investigation. This could be the work of
juveniles in the area. We want those guilty of this suspected arson to be
held responsible, as do the developers. This is why the Crime Stoppers
Board is offering $1000 cash on top of the $2000 offered by a private
citizen for a grand total of $3000! Just make one phone call to our tip
line 762-9500 with information that will allow Milan Police to make an
arrest and you get the reward, no questions asked. We want your
information not your name. Please make the call and help us solve this
crime.

BEWARE OF SCAMS
June 15, 2006
Recent
attempted scams involving seniors have area law enforcement and Crime
Stoppers once again sounding the alarm. Recently, two male Hispanics have
been offering to clean homeowners' gutters at a reduced rate. Once
engaged, the suspects dominate the conversation, acting like they know the
victim or their children. It ends when they ask the homeowner to provide
them a bucket of water. Suspect One follows the homeowner into the house
while Suspect Two enters the home looking for valuables. These two have
been as bold as to let themselves into the home, frightening the senior
homeowner. We urge neighborhoods to call us if they see individuals who
may be up to this type of activity. Please attempt to identify the vehicle
and license plate information. All seniors must remember to lock their
homes and to notify police when anyone suspicious is at their door.

currently asking for any information you might have on the long traveled
history of a very powerful machine gun. The M-60 machine gun, its tri-pod
stand, and green military ammo cans of belt-fed ammunition were recovered
in January by the Moline Police Department, in part because Detective Dave
Tertipes refused to give up hunting for it. The damage this weapon could
have caused in the wrong hands would have been devastating. Area police

had the weapon is underway. Police intend to trace it back to the day it
was illegally rebuilt. Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 if you can
provide us the information that leads to an arrest. As always you will

POPULAR QC BAND LYNN ALLEN VICTIMS OF
GUITAR THEFT
January 27, 2006
New Years Eve at
the Holiday Inn Moline was one rocking party for all those who attended.
The place was packed with Lynn Allen on stage, but unfortunately New Years
day brought bad news. A band member found that his tangerine orange Fender
Stratocaster guitar and the black shell hard case it was stored in had
been removed from the locked ballroom. After leaving the stage around 2:00
am the ballroom was locked, by 11:00 am the next morning the Stratocaster
was gone. The fender is valued at over $1800. This is a unique guitar, so
we are offering a special reward. If you have seen this tangerine orange
guitar or know who was responsible for the theft please call us. The Crime
Stoppers tip line is 762-9500.

ATV STOLEN
January 5, 2006
The new year
started poorly for our victim when he found that his ATV had been stolen
from a locked trailer while parked at the Fun Mart Cycle Center in Moline.
The red Suzuki Eiger ATV valued at $7000 may have been stolen as early as
November 1st by thieves who cut the lock but were kind enough to leave
fingerprints behind. The Illinois State Police helped process the crime
scene and Moline Police have some thoughts on who might be responsible but
they need your phone calls to help us locate the stolen four-wheeler. The
Suzuki will be worth little if the transmission is not fully serviced
within the next 50 to 100 miles. Catastrophic damage to the transmission
will occur if this much needed service is not completed. If you can help
police in this case, call the tip line, 309-762-9500. All calls are
anonymous and you could earn a cash reward.

golf carts belonging to Quad City Golf Carts were damaged. The carts
were stored in a tow-yard belonging to H & H Towing on Depot Street in
Bettendorf. It seems that a yet-to-be determined number of
suspects hot-wired approximately 30 of the golf carts and then engaged
in an impromptu round of demolition derby causing damages in excess of
$40,000. Bettendorf Police need your help with the name of any
of the suspects involved in this felony crime. If your information
helps police make an arrest you will receive up to $1,000 cash, no
questions asked. With Christmas fast approaching, you will receive
this money before the holiday. The Crime Stoppers tip line is
309-762-9500.

MOLINE ARSON UNDER INVESTIGATION
November 10, 2005
Sometime in the
early morning hours of November 1st a home in 1500 block of 20th
Avenue Moline was found to have charring at the base of all three
doors to the residence. The main door to the home had a significant
burn area and the nearby siding had melted. Moline Fire Marshall Larry
Lister responded with patrol officers to find that two tires on the
residents’ black Chevy van had also been sliced on the sidewall. This
arson could have very well ended in death since the arsonist attempted
to ensure that all the doors would be fully engulfed in flame when the
residents attempted to escape. We want the name of the individual
responsible and have up to $1,000 to award you. Please call the Crime
Stoppers tip line 309-762-9500 if you have any information on this
felony crime.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR FUNNY MONEY
November 3, 2005
Quad City
businesses that accept large bills should be aware of a current scam
and how to protect themselves. Recently $5 bills have been altered and
passed as genuine $100 and $50 notes. The bleaching process that the
counterfeiters use to fake the bills is less important than what you
need to know to identify a fake. You can easily do this by locating
two of the security features built into the currency. A $100 note
should duplicate Franklin in the watermark, but the counterfeit still
shows the image of Lincoln, who is on a $5. Holding the bill up to the
light should reveal the watermark. The second feature is the security
thread, which runs across the notes of these denominations. When a
real $100 bill is held up to the light, the thread will read USA 100.
If the note is a counterfeit, it may have the outward appearance of a
$100 note but the thread will read USA FIVE. The important point we
want to make is to have employees examine large notes closely for any
obvious signs of alteration. If you suspect someone is counterfeiting
call our tip line 309-762-9500. You will remain anonymous and if
police make an arrest you will receive $1,000 cash – genuine US
currency!

FOWL FOUL IN PRINCETON IOWA
October 30, 2005
Some crimes make
absolutely no sense and this is one of them. Sometime between 2 p.m.
Friday the 21st of October and Monday morning the 24th , vandals
released almost 250 gallons of diesel fuel into a waterfowl refuge on
the north pool of the Princeton State Wildlife Management Area. The
marsh is located about a half mile north of Princeton just east of
Highway 67. A plug was pulled from a hose on a diesel tank
causing over three acres to be contaminated and thousands of dollars
in damage. Our suspects may have been trying to steal the diesel fuel
or maybe they are just ignorant thinking this would “be fun.” Either
way, Crime Stoppers has up to $1,000 cash for the names of those
responsible. We think it’s fun when people like this get handcuffed.
Join in the fun, call our tip line 309-762-9500.

BEWARE OF EL GORDO
SCAM!
February 6, 2003
The ongoing advance fee fraud letters currently finding their way to
Quad City residents via e-mail are often very creative and innovative.
Lately Nigerian nationals, purporting to be officials of their government
or banking institutions, have been faxing or e-mailing letters to U.S.
businesses or individuals. Quad City area police have recently taken
numerous reports regarding the “El Gordo Spanish Sweepstakes Lottery”. As
in the Nigerian scam the sender requests both personal and financial
information, along with the promise of free money. In response to what is
now considered a growing epidemic, the US Secret Service has established
“Operation 4-1-9” named after the Nigerian law that prohibits such
swindles. To avoid becoming a victim of these frauds Crime Stoppers is
asking that you take the time to check out the detailed information
available on the secret service website by
clicking here.
