Crime Stoppers Run History

2009 Crime Stoppers Run
August 1, 2009
It rained. Nicole Carass sang the national anthem, the gun went off, and Derrick Grant in full Scottish regalia began piping the runners as they rushed to the east. Celebrity host Dan Kennedy from AM 1420 told the assembled crowd we had great running weather. As if on cue the rain started. The runners made it through, we made adjustments, and the post race party went on as scheduled. Kudos to the Tyson crew who managed to grill and deliver over 1000 pork chops and hot dogs. Pizza and Subs in Rock Island turned on the ovens early and flooded us with pizzas. Our volunteers really stepped up to make sure everyone was served as much as they wanted. The 100 new bikes were still a hit if a little wet. Ben Lloyd fresh off his Bix victory is now a three time winner of our race. Nancy Foxen took the honors as our first female to cross the finish line. The Davenport Fire Department claimed title to the fastest Department in the area finishing ahead of the Davenport and East Moline Police Departments. The Moline High School Cross Country Team squeaked by a team of area running coaches for first place in the community teams.  In all over 850 runners entered our 5k, I mile, or ¼ mile fun run. So many people make this run possible as we continue to grow. Tyson Foods, Wal-Mart, Rock Island County States Attorney, First Midwest Bank, Pizza and Subs, the Moline and East Moline Police Benevolents, QC CAP Council, Stoney Creek Inn, the Dispatch /Argus, City of Moline, and all our dedicated volunteers.
