Saturday
Serendipity, "Be a Detective"
March 8, 2008
On Saturday March 1st and
March 8th, sixteen Moline third and fourth graders participated
in "Be a Detective" workshop. The workshop was held in
conjunction with Saturday Serendipity which is organized by the Moline
Council for the Gifted. Moline Police Detective/Lieutenant Trevor
Fisk and Crime Stoppers Detective Scott Williams showed the students
how to lift and identify fingerprints, and explained the
who-what-where-when of interviewing a suspect and a full-proof method
to tell if someone is lying. The students also learned about the
accuracy of eye-witness testimony. They collected clues and
interviewed suspects at an imaginary crime scene. The students
were presented with a certificate of
completion and a tee-shirt provided by Crime Stoppers.

CRIME STOPPERS 5K
CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF CRIME
STOMPING
August 10, 2007
Wow! Almost 1000 runners and volunteers
were on River Drive in Moline for our 6th annual 5k race, all to help
us celebrate 25 years of Crime Stoppers and have a little fun. Quite a
few blazed their way to glory in the 5k and one mile races. Even the
little runners in the quarter mile fun run looked possessed after they
caught a glimpse of the 100 bicycles in front of the stage. In the end
Ben Lloyd was our winner with a time of 15:14. Some thought this was
the course record until we researched and found that in 2003 Chris
Wallaert set our course record with a 15:06. Our ladies winner was
Jennifer Paul with a time of 17:56. In the highly contested race for
“Fastest Police Department in the Quad Cities,” the Moline Police
Department edged out Davenport Police Department by a mere five
seconds. East Moline Police Department and the Rock Island County
Sheriff’s Department will be back next year with a vengeance. Our
numbers continue to grow and our great sponsors make it work. Thank
you to Miller Container Corporation, Wal-Mart, Rock Island County
States Attorney’s Office, Kerry Stoudt State Farm, Famous Dave’s BBQ,
Pizza & Subs, Tyson, Mike Roberts Class Rings – Herff Jones, and Rock
Island Country Market. A big thank you to the 100 Bicycle sponsors who
made the giveaway possible and of course, Stoney Creek Inn, our host
hotel. Alive and Wellness school of massage therapy, the Putnam and
IMAX, Malcolm Jewelers, AD Huesing, and The Dispatch, Argus, and
The Leader. The race was emceed this year by CBS 4’s own sports
director Jay Kidwell, and what a job he did! Jay is a pro and did a
fantastic job. Alex, Mike, Austin, and Dan, hot off their Alleman High
School talent show debut, were a great addition and a big hit this
year as KISS. The start of the race would not be the same without
Bagpiper Derrick Grant piping the runners to their best. Dawn Sandoval
and LeAnn Wagner, our race Directors, and all the Crime Stoppers Board
members are to be thanked for the time and extra effort put into this
year's race. Above all, we want to thank all the runners, walkers and
volunteers. Mark your calendars for August 2, 2008! We hope to
see you next year!
