Special Events
2010 Crime Stoppers Run coming up fast! Don't miss it!
July 9, 2010
Where can you win one of 100
bicycles, eat all the Tyson Pork Chops your belly can hold, and
watch 1000 of your neighbors having a blast running and walking for
a good cause? The ninth annual Crime Stoppers 5k is where! Saturday
August 7th starting at 7:30 AM we will be running and walking at
Bass Street Landing in Moline to raise money for our reward fund.
Because of the support of so many great sponsors we stand by our
claim of having the very best post race party in the area. Along
with a great shirt design and medals for all the kids, the TYSON
post race party features mouthwatering pork chops, plenty of fruit
and soda, pizza and subs pizza, and even adult beverages. While the
party is on we will be handing out trophies and 100 brand new
bicycles to kids 12 and under. We will also have a special surprise
at the event this year you will not want to miss. Our Police and
Fire guns and hoses challenge is in its ninth year and CRIME
STOPPERS will christen the fastest department in the area, not some
pretender. Print a race registration form from our website or sign
up online at
www.qccrimestoppers.com/race. Forms are also available at area
police departments and the Dispatch/Argus offices. We really hope to
see you there!

2009 Crime Stoppers Run
August 1, 2009
It rained. Nicole Carass sang
the national anthem, the gun went off, and Derrick Grant in full
Scottish regalia began piping the runners as they rushed to the
east. Celebrity host Dan Kennedy from AM 1420 told the assembled
crowd we had great running weather. As if on cue the rain started.
The runners made it through, we made adjustments, and the post race
party went on as scheduled. Kudos to the Tyson crew who managed to
grill and deliver over 1000 pork chops and hot dogs. Pizza and Subs
in Rock Island turned on the ovens early and flooded us with pizzas.
Our volunteers really stepped up to make sure everyone was served as
much as they wanted. The 100 new bikes were still a hit if a little
wet. Ben Lloyd fresh off his Bix victory is now a three time winner
of our race. Nancy Foxen took the honors as our first female to
cross the finish line. The Davenport Fire Department claimed title
to the fastest Department in the area finishing ahead of the
Davenport and East Moline Police Departments. The Moline High School
Cross Country Team squeaked by a team of area running coaches for
first place in the community teams. In all over 850 runners entered
our 5k, I mile, or ¼ mile fun run. So many people make this run
possible as we continue to grow. Tyson Foods, Wal-Mart, Rock Island
County States Attorney, First Midwest Bank, Pizza and Subs, the
Moline and East Moline Police Benevolents, QC CAP Council, Stoney
Creek Inn, the Dispatch /Argus, City of Moline, and all our
dedicated volunteers.

Saturday
Serendipity, "Be a Detective"
March 21, 2008
On Saturday March 14th and
March 21st, twelve Moline third and fourth graders participated
in "Be a Detective" workshop. The workshop was held in
conjunction with Saturday Serendipity which is organized by the Moline
Council for the Gifted. Moline Police Detective/Lieutenant Trevor
Fisk and Crime Stoppers Detective Scott Williams showed the students
how to lift and identify fingerprints, and explained the
who-what-where-when of interviewing a suspect and a full-proof method
to tell if someone is lying. The students also learned about the
accuracy of eye-witness testimony. The students
were presented with a certificate of
completion and a tee-shirt provided by Crime Stoppers.

CRIME STOPPERS 5K
CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF CRIME
STOMPING
August 10, 2007
Wow! Almost 1000 runners and volunteers
were on River Drive in Moline for our 6th annual 5k race, all to help
us celebrate 25 years of Crime Stoppers and have a little fun. Quite a
few blazed their way to glory in the 5k and one mile races. Even the
little runners in the quarter mile fun run looked possessed after they
caught a glimpse of the 100 bicycles in front of the stage. In the end
Ben Lloyd was our winner with a time of 15:14. Some thought this was
the course record until we researched and found that in 2003 Chris
Wallaert set our course record with a 15:06. Our ladies winner was
Jennifer Paul with a time of 17:56. In the highly contested race for
“Fastest Police Department in the Quad Cities,” the Moline Police
Department edged out Davenport Police Department by a mere five
seconds. East Moline Police Department and the Rock Island County
Sheriff’s Department will be back next year with a vengeance. Our
numbers continue to grow and our great sponsors make it work. Thank
you to Miller Container Corporation, Wal-Mart, Rock Island County
States Attorney’s Office, Kerry Stoudt State Farm, Famous Dave’s BBQ,
Pizza & Subs, Tyson, Mike Roberts Class Rings – Herff Jones, and Rock
Island Country Market. A big thank you to the 100 Bicycle sponsors who
made the giveaway possible and of course, Stoney Creek Inn, our host
hotel. Alive and Wellness school of massage therapy, the Putnam and
IMAX, Malcolm Jewelers, AD Huesing, and The Dispatch, Argus, and
The Leader. The race was emceed this year by CBS 4’s own sports
director Jay Kidwell, and what a job he did! Jay is a pro and did a
fantastic job. Alex, Mike, Austin, and Dan, hot off their Alleman High
School talent show debut, were a great addition and a big hit this
year as KISS. The start of the race would not be the same without
Bagpiper Derrick Grant piping the runners to their best. Dawn Sandoval
and LeAnn Wagner, our race Directors, and all the Crime Stoppers Board
members are to be thanked for the time and extra effort put into this
year's race. Above all, we want to thank all the runners, walkers and
volunteers. Mark your calendars for August 2, 2008! We hope to
see you next year!
